Center for Capacity Building organized two-day Training-cum-Workshop on Improving Work Relationships for Better Results from 23 to 24 January 2014 for twenty four officers of Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City. The program was conducted in support of Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City Office. The participants were mainly the planners, administrators, engineers, administrative officers, account officers, technicians and professional staff of Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City.

The program was focused mainly to increase conceptual understanding, clarity, awareness and sensitivity covering a range of cross-cutting issues: how to synchronize the working behaviors of the staff; and how to improve work relationships in the workplace. Besides, the training workshop was also aimed at assessing and analyzing the existing scenario of work relationships; and developing strategies for improving work relationships with a view to enhance work efficiency in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City Office. Almost all of the participants felt the program a very interesting and quite different from other previous training workshops. They also found the program useful in terms of developing their confidence, understandings and group behaviors. Hence, they expressed their views to impart such training even to the other staff of different levels of the organization and its continuity.

The group works and group presentations covering analytical findings of the interpersonal problems existed in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City Office and suggestive ways to overcome them in the days to come were seem to be fruitful from individual, group and organizational perspectives. The three different groups of the participants worked out on three different thematic issues. They were:

  1. Analysis of Work Relationships between Superiors and Subordinates in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City Office;
  2. Analysis of Inter-Departmental Work Relationships in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City Office; and
  3. Analysis of Work Culture and Work Relationships in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City Office.

The critical discussions and addresses on formal and informal work relationships in organization, emerging demands for cultural transformation, need-based behavioral change programs for employees, work load rationalization, attitudinal and behavioral change in employees, and systemic reforms for improving work relationships in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City Office were the significant coverage and outcomes of the training workshop.
